Neat-O! The Atlanta Time Machine a collection of Atlanta area contemporary and vintage photos shot from the same perspective. There's some great ones on historic homes on historic Peachtree Battle. It's amazing that some of them look completely different, and some almost exactly the same almost 50 years later. Wow, this one of the old Loew's Grand Theatre is just beautiful. The photo from 1958 looks like a healthy, vibrant downtown - almost like NYC - but the current state of the spot seems somehow just generic and abandoned....a place people just drive through on thier way to somwhere else. This one of Five Points, too. Sheesh. Maybe the current day one was shot at 6am on a Sunday morning...but still. Check out the old car with the giant bullhorns on top...I wonder what it was broadcasting?
Awesome shot of the Fox Theatre in 1946, and what is one of my favorite Atlanta scenes, Lake Clara Meer in Piedmont Park. From the tennis courts near this lake, especially at night, it's almost like being at Boat Lake in Central Park with the backdrop of twinkling lights of the high rises.
I can't find anything like this online for Seattle, but hopefully someone will prove me wrong. What a great, fascinating project.
