Many thanks to everyone for their good wishes for my mom. After way too many days, she was released from the hospital and is at home now - feeling slightly better than when she was admitted. She has Atrial Fibrillation which quite simply put causes parts of the heart to beat out of synch with other parts and/or not pump fully/properly. She has a couple of leaky valves which may be a result of the fibrillation and may require additional treatments as time goes on. Her heart has remained in sinus rhythm, but overall her blood levels aren't where the doctors would like to see them and she's still feeling pretty poorly despite the 7 different medications she's taking. We're really not sure how she'll go back to work with the conditions there, but time will tell.
I've returned to Seattle as well (dang having to work!) but will be heading back to Ohio soonish and often until she can move into the condo she bought here on Lake Washington - likely next fall. That'll be nice for everyone - especially for Mom since she'll have a great view of the lake (pretty much waterfront) and will be just down the road from us.
While in Ohio, I enjoyed spending some time learning to knit (!) from a combination of mom's knowledge, some books and the hospital nurses. I'm totally excited to knit all kinds of cool things and get some great patterns for cute felted things from former RealNetworks colleague Virginia Thomas' Hello Knitty!
Also very much enjoyed listening to "How come" by Ray LaMontagne on KEXP on the way to work this morning.
