Jon Stewart becomes more and more my hero each day. His show is purely hilarious fake news brilliance that's more informative than any other media coverage I've seen during this election season. His book - a gift to America. It's as though he and the rest of the staff are saying "HELLO PEOPLE! This government stuff does not have to be BORING. Yes, you may learn and have fun". Recently he appeared on Crossfire to BEG them to engage in actual debate instead of the "theatre" and "partisan hackery" that is "hurting America" (watch it here).
Oh how I love Jon, Samantha, Steve, Stephen, Rob who never looks directly into the camera, Ed, and, of course, the previously gushed over Lewis Black.
The rest of the crew at The Daily Show are fab folks as well - while we were living in New York, we frequented tapings of the show thanks to Teri, the rock-star awesome audience co-ordinator. We saw some great great shows and guests but by far the best Daily Show event we attended was their September 11th fundraiser. It was sweet, difficult, completely from the heart, and gave the attendees not only permission but about a million reasons to laugh again. Aside from Jon, Lewis, and the rest of the on-air crew, many of the writers did bits onstage at the event and were some of the FUNNIEST people I've ever seen perform. One of the guys did a craft project of some sort with child art supplies that he brought on stage in a pencil box. I know the description doesn't do it justice but trust me, it was comic brilliance.
I'm just so happy that the show is doing so well and being recognized so much and I hope each and every person on the staff knows that they're doing the country a huge service. I mean, they're a "fake news" show on a comedy network that also airs prank calling puppets and they're producing the most honest political coverage we've got. Sheesh. They should all get gold medals and 10 million dollar sports-star-style contract bonuses.
